  • Supracondylar fracture of the humerus is the most common fracture of the elbow in children and it is one of the most difficult fractures to manage because of accompanying complications. Of 69 cases of supracondylar fracture of the humerus in children. 41 cases of displaced supracondylar fracture have been treated and managed by percutaneous pinning after closed reduction at Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Sung Ae Hospital from January. 1988 to December, 1989.
    The results obtained were as follows;
    1. The advantages were stability of fracture, vascular safety, with any permissahle position of the elbow, early ambulation and short hospital stay and low incidence of varus deformity in follow up.
    2. The complications were median nerve Palsy, pin migration and septic arthritis.
    3. The results of percutaneous pinning were satisfactory in about 92.8%. The stability was satisfactory and there was no defoumity of the elbow.
    4. The average duration of periosteal reaction was 18 days and bony union was 41 days.
    5. The final result was associated with initial reduction rather than initial displacement.
    6. Follow-up carryig angle was more influenced by postreduction Baumann angle rather than postreduction rotation.
